Blog Tour~ Seduced by a Rogue by Amanda Scott

A fair-haired beauty at 19, Lady Mairi is heiress apparent to her father Lord Dunwythie's rich barony. He has carefully taught her how to manage their estates, but a feud between his clan and the Maxwell clan is brewing as the two families edge toward a clan war - their dispute over money owed. Mairi's father believes he owes nothing, and of course Mairi sides with him. When the impulsive and blue-eyed Rob Maxwell chances to meet Mairi in a barley field, they feel instant attraction, despite their families' antagonisms. Knowing he must put his clan first, Rob enacts a plan to force Dunwythie to pay his debt: Rob kidnaps Mairi, making the abduction appear the work of a stranger; then he and his sheriff-brother offer to help Dunwythis rescue his daughter IF, and only if, he will pay them the monies due. Yet after Rob captures Mairi's body, she captures his heart. When Dunwythie summons the aid of the most powerful clan in all Scotland (the Douglases), clan-tensions rise to a fever pitch. Love takes its own feverish course, as Mairi and Rob join forces to prevent a clash between hot-headed clans, and to protect their budding love.

My Week

My Valentines Day was very sweet. I recieved the saucepan that I asked for and a huge Hershey's Chocolate Bar. Walmart was out of one of my prescriptions, so instead of paying $4, I had to pay $18.80, which is alot cheaper than I thought it would be. Matt turns 17 on the 25th, so I've been planning his birthday dinner~ he asked for Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwiches and he asked for a Jello Poke Cake and I've been thinking about how my baby really isn't a baby anymore. And feeling oh, so old! LOL! We went out to dinner Friday night-The Outback Steakhouse. Then after dinner we just went for a drive, just the two of us. It was really nice.

So, how was YOUR week?

Shift by Rachel Vincent

Being the first female werecat enforcer isn't easy. Scars accumulate, but I'm stronger in so many ways.
As for my personal life? It's complicated. Choices worth making always are. Ever since my brother's death and my father's impeachment, it's all I can do to prevent more blood from spilling. Now our Pride is under attack by a flight of vicious thunderbirds. And making peace with our new enemies may be the only way to get the best of our old foe.
With the body count rising and treachery everywhere, my instincts tell me to look before I leap. But sometimes a leap of faith is the only real option….

my thoughts~

WOOHOO! I didn't have to wait until the original March 1st date! My copy arrived on Thursday and I read it in one sitting (ignoring everything & everyone else of course!)

This was a great book! It makes me incredibly sad that there is only one more book in the Shifters series. Shift hit all the right spots for me...yet leaving some things open for Alpha. You really see how Faythe has matured since the first book, Stray. If you haven't read the series yet, you should! The books already out: Stray, Rogue, Pride, Prey & Shift. Alpha is due out October 2010.

Blog Tour~ Spider's Bite by Jennifer Estep

My name is Gin, and I kill people.

They call me the Spider. I'm the most feared assassin in the South -- when I'm not busy at the Pork Pit cooking up the best barbecue in Ashland. As a Stone elemental, I can hear everything from the whispers of the gravel beneath my feet to the vibrations of the soaring Appalachian Mountains above me. My Ice magic also comes in handy for making the occasional knife. But I don't use my powers on the job unless I absolutely have to. Call it professional pride.
Now that a ruthless Air elemental has double-crossed me and killed my handler, I'm out for revenge. And I'll exterminate anyone who gets in my way -- good or bad. I may look hot, but I'm still one of the bad guys. Which is why I'm in trouble, since irresistibly rugged Detective Donovan Caine has agreed to help me. The last thing this coldhearted killer needs when I'm battling a magic more powerful than my own is a sexy distraction...especially when Donovan wants me dead just as much as the enemy.

This was another book that once I started reading, I just couldn't stop! I put off going to the grocery (sorry kids) and doing the dishes (sorry honey)! This book kept me on the edge of my seat. What a ride! Gin is one tough chic who knows how to kick some major ass! I loved getting to know her, Finn, Sopia & Jo-Jo. I can't wait for the next book 'Web of Lies' to come out!

My Valentine's Day (and I'm tossing in a product review!)

I'm never big on celebrating Valentine's Day. I mean, really. Why do you need that one day to show the person you love, that you love them? I try to show Jim my love everyday. Don't get me wrong. If he wants to bring home a box of chocolates (or anything chocolate for me), hey, that's more than ok. But he surprises me with chocolate often anyway. This year he asked what I wanted and I actually told him something besides "pshh, nothing". I wanted a new 3 qt saucepan. It didn't have to be fancy, just not teflon. So, for Valentines Day, we went out to eat at Applebee's, where I had the 3 Cheese Chicken Penne, we went to some Antique stores that we hadn't visited for about a year at least and I got the best 3 qt saucepan, EVER!!! This is what I received from my Valentine:
It has the dual pour spouts, with the strainer in the lid. It has even heating distribution, that makes it wonderful to cook with!
my thoughts~
I love cooking with this pan and I've already told Jim, that as my other pans (that are not good quality pans) wear, I'm buying only Wearever! This pan will last until I'm no longer able to cook!

Oh Things, they are achangin'!

Well the most notable thing that has changed is the look...what do you think? I love the purple! And the girls up there drinking their coffee & having some girl talk? LOVE IT!! I love that it is so simple!! Oh and the navi bar accross the top! I love that too!

What else is changing? Well, when I host a giveaway, now you fill out a form that includes your mailing address so when you win, I already have. Don't worry, I'm not going to sell your info, or anything nefarious like that. You will still be notified by mail, and the winners will still be posted here.

And of course theres Tasty Tuesday. I'm really enjoying searching the web for those easy, inexpensive dinner recipes and when I find one, sharing!

I'm just now getting back into my reading 'groove' it seems. I think I might have been depressed after getting out of the hospital & losing my job. I just wanted to watch tv. Worse-reruns. Of shows that I've already seen and almost know by heart. But like I said I'm getting back into my reading groove, blogging groove, woohoo! Thanks for baring with me through the tough times!

Storm of Visions by Christina Dodd

Jacqueline Vargha has always run from her gift. Now Caleb D'Angelo forces his way into her life, demands his place as her lover, and insists she take her place as one of the Chosen. She flees, he pursues, but she can no longer deny her visions, or the dangerous man who is her downfall — and her destiny.

my thoughts~
I'm torn. Really. I wanted to love this book. It's the first in the Chosen Ones series and I love a great series. This book was ok. Not great. Not 'WOW'. I don't feel the need to rush right out and find the second book so I can read it right now. I will pick up the second book "Storm of Shadows" but I'm not in a rush. I think there is great potential for the series, which is why I'm not willing to give it up yet. The book was a little slow, but the last 50 pages or so felt overstuffed with...everything. If you've been wanting to read the series, go ahead. You might really enjoy it. Maybe it was the mood I was in. But I will be giving the second book a chance, but I'm buying from the UBS. If you've read "Storm of Visions" what did you think?

Wake by Lisa McMann

Not all dreams are sweet.
For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people's dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie's seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime.
She can't tell anybody about what she does -- they'd never believe her, or worse, they'd think she's a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn't want and can't control.
Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. She is a participant....

my thoughts~
I'm usually the last one to get into a series. It was no different with Wake. I've wanted to read Wake forever, but just hadn't gotten around to it. I'm so glad I finally did! I decided this was going to be the first book that I read for the 2010 YA Challenge that I had signed up for. Well Fade (book2) and Gone (book 3) will now be included! I thought Janie, Carrie & Cabe were fantastic characters! If you read YA books, and you haven't read Wake yet, what are you waiting for? Go on, go get your copy...and while your buying Wake, you might as well pick up Fade & Gone. It will save you the trip!

Blog Tour & Giveaway~Countess of Scandal by Laurel McKee

As children, Eliza Blacknall and William Denton ran wild over the fields of southern Ireland and swore they would be friends forever. Then fate took Will away to England, while Eliza stayed behind to become a proper Irish countess. Years later, Will finally makes his way home-as an English soldier sent to crush the Irish uprising. When he spies the lovely Eliza, he is captivated by the passionate woman she has become. But Eliza's passions have led her to join the Irish rebel cause, and Will and Eliza now find themselves on opposite sides of a dangerous conflict. When Ireland explodes in bloody rebellion, Will's regiment is ordered to the front lines, and he is forced to choose between his duty to the English king and his love for Eliza and their Irish homeland.

about the author~

Laurel McKee is the pen name for regency romance writer Amanda McCabe.

Amanda wrote her first romance at the age of sixteen--a vast historical epic starring all her friends as the characters, written secretly during algebra class (and her parents wondered why math was not her strongest subject...)

She's never since used algebra, but her books have been nominated for many awards, including the RITA Award, the Romantic Times BOOKReviews Reviewers' Choice Award, the Booksellers Best, the National Readers Choice Award, and the Holt Medallion. She lives in Oklahoma with a menagerie of two cats, a Pug, and a very bossy miniature Poodle, along with far too many books.

When not writing or reading, she loves taking dance classes, collecting cheesy travel souvenirs, and watching the Food Network--even though she doesn't cook.

Email her at laurel@laurelmckee.net

my thoughts~
The first book in a trilogy (Yay!!!) Countess of Scandal is a story that centers around a heroine who is strong and steadfast in her beliefs. She is loyal to Ireland, as she thinks of herself as Irish since she was born there. The hero is torn between the woman he loves and his loyalty to his country. They loved each other when they were younger, but when Will joined the British Army, Eliza turned her back on him. He comes back into her life 7 years later and there are 'fireworks'!! This story is one that I will be rereading in the future! The next story is Anna's - Duchess of Sin, scheduled for release in December, 2010.

Waiting On Wednesday...

Waiting on Wednesday was started by
Jill overat Breaking The Spine

The Search by Nora Roberts
Release date: July 6, 2010
Hardcover; Amazon price: $17.79

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life-a quaint house on an island off Seattle's coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescues. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare...Several years ago, Fiona was the only survivor of the Red Scarf serial killer, who shot and killed Fiona's cop fiancé and his K-9 partner. On Orcas Island, Fiona found the peace and solitude she needed to rebuild her life. But all that changes on the day Simon Doyle barrels up her drive, desperate for her help. He's the reluctant owner of an out-of-control puppy, foisted upon him by his mother. Jaws has eaten through Simon's house, and he's at his wit's end. To Fiona, Jaws is nothing she can't handle. Simon, however, is another matter. A newcomer to Orcas, he's a rugged and in-tensely private artist, known for the exquisite furniture he creates from wood. Simon never wanted a puppy-and he most definitely doesn't want a woman. Besides, the lanky redhead is not his type. But tell that to his hormones. As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona's life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

Tasty Tuesday! Ranch Chicken from Betty Crocker

from Betty Crocker Recipes

ingredients~

4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (1 lb)
1/4 cup ranch dressing
1/3 cup Progresso® dry bread crumbs (any flavor)
2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil

directions~

1. Dip chicken into dressing, then coat with bread crumbs.
2. In 10-inch skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Cook chicken in oil 12 to 15 minutes, turning once, until outside is golden brown and juice is no longer pink when centers of thickest pieces are cut.

I fixed this a few weeks ago and it was delish! I served it with lumpy mashed potatos, broccoli with cheese sauce and for dessert I made the Apple Crisp also found on the Betty Crocker website. I had issues when I made this. Some of the breading came off.

about the author~(from Hachette Book Group site)
I began writing the way so many writers do—the moment I learned to wield a pencil. But even as a child, I didn't write "kid" stories. I preferred something more dramatic. Something that didn't include Dick, Jane, and a dog named Spot. I wanted my characters to be named Dracula and my dogs to have names like White Fang or Cujo. I'll always have my parents to thank for that. They never censored my reading material (though I suspect that if they had truly known what was between the covers of some of the books, they'd have been a little more careful,) so when other girls my age were reading Laura Ingalls Wilder and Judy Blume, I was immersing myself in Stephen King and Dean Koontz.
Later, after I'd joined the Air Force and was in dire need of something to read between shifts at the weather station, I continued to read horror, but I'd branched out into fantasy, and then, finally, romance (though I admit I went kicking and screaming to the latter.)
Turned out that I loved romance! So I started writing it, but again, my style and voice leaned toward the dark, paranormal side. Fortunately for me, paranormal romance, as a sub-genre, was booming. I let my imagination fly, and soon I'd sold a series of dark, sexy paranormal romances to Grand Central Publishing.
I still read a lot of horror, science fiction, and fantasy, and in fact, one of my all time favorite books about writing is On Writing, by my favorite childhood horror author, Stephen King. If you're an author or a reader, I highly recommend this book for an insight into an author's mind—which can sometimes be a very scary place.

my review~ I finished this book in less than 12 hours. Once I picked it up, I had a really hard time putting it down! Larissa Ione has created a world that centers around demons, angels, vampires, yippee!!! 'Ecstasy Unveiled' is book 4 in the series and luckily for Larissa's fans, it isn't going to be the last! I haven't had the chance to pick up the first 3 (Pleasure Unbound, Desire Unchained and Passion Unleashed) but these 3 books will be in my hot little hands by the end of the day!
