Blog Tour~To Sin With A Scoundrel by Cara Elliott

A reclusive widow known for her scientific scholarship, Lady Ciara Sheffield is shadowed by rumors that she poisoned her husband . . . A rakehell rogue notorious for his devil-may-care antics, Lucas Bingham, the Earl of Hadley is not accused of murdering anything—save for the rules of Polite Society. The only thing they have in common is seeing their names featured in the lurid gossip columns of London’s newspapers.
Until an ancient manuscript draws them together.
Ciara needs a titled fiancĂ© to quell the slanderous speculations which may send her to the gallows. Lucas needs brilliant scholar to help his elderly uncle decipher the secrets of the mysterious manuscript. So when her friends urge her to accept the earl’s proposal of a temporary alliance, Ciara decides that she had no choice but to make a deal with the Devil.
And so begins a seductive dance of sinful pleasures and hidden desires as the two of them waltz through the mansions of Mayfair. Lies, intrigue, treachery, sex. They find themselves facing slanderous whispers, unscrupulous relatives—not to speak of their own simmering passions, which quickly ignite into dangerous flames. It’s a potent mix and the result may be explosive—and perhaps deadly—if they don’t watch their step.

about the author~
(from the authors website)
I began my writing career at age five with a number of lavishly illustrated Westerns, which were lovingly preserved for posterity by my first fan (Thanks, Mom!) As you can see, I believe in immersing myself in the mood and character of my stories!
I have since moved on to Regency England, an era that has fascinated me ever since I picked up a copy of Jane Austen’s Pride And Prejudice. (Sorry, no picture of me in my ballgown and tiara!)
Books have always been an important part of my life. I’ve always been a voracious reader, and I’ve always had a very vivid imagination . . . so much so that I think at times it worried my parents that I was so happy in my own little world, drawing pictures and creating stories. My teachers will also tell you that I was the class history geek, even in grade school. I don’t really know why, but I have always been fascinated with the past.
As an undergrad at Yale, I majored in art and went on to get a MFA in Graphic Design. So storytelling got put on the back burner for a while. But The Muse kept whispering in my ear, and one day I sat down at the keyboard . . . and realized that writing is what I love.

my thoughts~

I really enjoyed reading this book! Lady Ciara is accused of murdering her husband while the Earl of Hadley is only interested in having "fun" (yep, I'm wagging my eyebrows up & down! You know what kind of fun he's interested in!!). So the two come to an arrangement to help each other.

To Sin With A Scoundrel is the first book of what I think will be a great series!

I'm already looking forward to the second book in the series~ To Surrender To A Rogue. It will be available June 2010!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. Receiving a copy in no way reflected my review of this book.

Plus, Del is too protective of Laurel to ever cross the line with her-or so she thinks. Isn't it April yet??? Oh, and I'm not as crazy for this cover. *sigh* I really liked the last 2...but I know, it's about the caterer, so the cover makes sense. It's just the other 2 covers were, I don't know, more dramatic. Oh, well, maybe it's just me. I'm buying the book as soon it hits the shelves!

Romance Novel Sluts

I just joined a new group that was formed over on Facebook, Romance Novel Sluts (Savy Ladies (and Lords) Unearthing Treasured Stories) and they, I mean we, now have their own RNS site! I was over at the new site and read a post that Slut Sarah (really, that is her username!) had written: I wasn’t always a romance novel slut. And she asked at the end who contributed to my romance novel passion. Here is the comment I left:

My Mom. She started it all. I started sneaking her romance novels when I was 12 or 13.

That comment really didn't do it justice. I didn't just sneak & read her romance novels. I devoured them. It didn't matter to me who wrote it. It didn't matter what genre it was (heck, back then I didn't know what a genre was!). I just grabbed the books that had the sexiest covers. As a matter of fact, I think the majority were either historical or based around Native Americans with the white woman as a slave. All that mattered to me was that it had to be a Happily Ever After. Thats it. It just needed a HEA. And even now, a HEA is necessary for me to enjoy a book. If it doesn't have a HEA, I won't read it again.

Do you know what else I loved to sneak & read?

I loved her True Romance magazines (do they still sell those?)too. I just loved how you got so many short stories that were true in a magazine! It just made my young, young, teen heart go pitter patter! And for the early 80's I think they were a little risque, too!

So. I ask you this. Who contributed to you becoming a Romance Novel Slut?

Tasty Tuesday! Loaded Baked Potato Soup...

There's nothing I enjoy more (except maybe coffee) on a snowy winters day than
a pot of homemade soup. Below is the recipe that I use when I'm in the mood for
some really great Loaded Baked Potato Soup...

Ingredients~
8 potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
8 cups milk
1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
3 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
chopped green onion
salt and pepper to taste

Directions~
Place cubed potatoes into a glass dish, and cook in the microwave oven for 7 to 10 minutes, or until soft.
While your cooking the potatoes, melt the butter in a large pot over medium-high heat using your whisk blend in the flour until smooth, then stir in the milk. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium low, and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, or until slightly thickened.
Stir in the potatoes and cook for 5 more minutes. Stir in the sour cream, cheddar cheese and bacon bits until melted and well blended. Season with salt and pepper to taste. This is great with yeast rolls!

I was trolling Twitter tonight...

I was trolling Twitter tonight and found Conan O'Brien (personally, I feel as though he was royally screwed by NBC & Jay, I'm just sayin') and so in finding Conan, I followed his twitpic link to 'his' 92 Ford Taurus. While reading the comments that people left, someone left a link for Dirty Car Art and if you haven't seen it, you should visit! What this man does with paint brushes and a dirty car window is AMAZING!! Don't believe me? Look for yourself~
Mona Lisa with Stary Nights in the background! Wow!

View from the back
and its just a regular Pet Fest!

See? Isn't that amazing? I would hate to wash my car if I was lucky enough to have something like this on my car! I think Scott Wade is truly talented! Just awesome!

My Week
My week was very exciting. I suppose. Matt, my baby, turned 17 on
Thursday. We have a family rule that if it's your birthday, you get to pick what we have for dinner that night, and what kind of cake you want. You won't be told no on your birthday! So, for dinner we had BBQ Sandwiches and Corn Casserole and for his cake he wanted a Jello Cake.
On Friday, I signed the parental release for him to join the Reserves. Me? I didn't shed a tear. Really. I cried them all out over the last week! I don't think I've ever been so proud of him. He is growing into such a great man. My cell phone went to cell phone hell on Friday, so I spent this morning at the phone store picking out a new one. I read some great books this week and I'm starting on my books for next week! Woohoo! The grandkids are coming over tonight to spend the night, so that will be a lot of fun! Gotta love those babies!!

Blog Tour~Undress Me In The Temple Of Heaven by Susan Jane Gilman

In 1986, Gilman and a classmate embarked on a bold trek around the globe starting in the People’s Republic of China. At that point, China had been open to independent backpackers for roughly ten minutes.
Armed only with the collected works of Nietzsche and an astrology book, the two plunged into the dusty streets of Shanghai. Unsurprisingly, they quickly found themselves in over their heads—hungry, disoriented, stripped of everything familiar, and under constant government surveillance. Soon, they began to unravel—one physically, the other psychologically. As their journey became increasingly sinister, they found themselves facing crises Gilman didn’t think they’d survive. But by summoning strengths she never knew she had—and with help from unexpected friends—she and her friend found their way out of a Chinese heart of darkness. What began as a lighthearted adventure became a real-life international thriller that transformed them forever.
about the author~ (from the authors website)
Funny, but... I never set out to write books that made people laugh. My main love has always been literary fiction, and the first book I completed (which has yet to be published) was a collection of serious short stories. However, even with my darkest work, people would always tell me that parts of it were funny. This annoyed me because I aspired to be an American Dostoevsky with Breasts. But in 1999, I took a writers' workshop at the Bethesda Writers' Center. The first story I submitted was a heartbreaking tale of a man's addiction, which impressed the class. The second was an absurd story about mistaken identity full of Jews, Rastafarians, and dental hygienists. To my great irritation, the class liked this one infinitely more. After class, a man pulled me aside. "I have to tell you," he said. "My wife has been battling breast cancer. I read her your story last night, and it was the first time in two years she really laughed. You've got a gift. Please don't ignore it. Not everyone can make a sick woman laugh in her hospital bed." That's when I finally saw the merit in my own, lurking smart-ass and stopped fighting it.
my thoughts~
2 Crazy Girls!! It takes 2 Crazy girls to backpack through China at the tender age of 21! I found this to be a funny, inspiring and emotional read. Inspiring as in, expand your comfort zone, get out there and try new things. NOT go to China! My suggestion-read it. You won't be disappointed!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. Receiving a copy in no way reflected my review of this book.

Blog Tour! Shadow Blade by Seressia Glass

For Kira Solomon, normal was never an option.
Kira’s day job as an antiquities expert, but her true calling is as a Shadowchaser. Trained from youth to be one of the most lethal Chasers in existence, Kira serves the Gilead Commission dispatching the Fallen who sow discord and chaos. Of course, sometimes Gilead bureaucracy is as much a thorn in her side as anything the Fallen can muster against her. Right now, though, she’s got a bigger problem. Someone is turning the city of Atlanta upside-down in search of a four-millennia-old Egyptian dagger that just happens to have fallen into Kira’s hands.
Then there’s Khefar, the dagger’s true owner-a near-immortal 4000-year-old Nubian warrior who, Kira has to admit. looks pretty fine for his age. Joining forces is the only way to keep the weapon safe from the sinister Shadow force, but now Kira is in deep with someone who holds more secrets than she does, the one person who knows just how treacherous this fight is. Because every step closer to destroying the enemy is a step closer to losing herself to Shadow forever. . . .

about the author~

Seressia has always been a voracious reader, cutting her teeth on comics, cereal boxes–anything at hand. So it came as no surprise to family and teachers when she began creating stories featuring some of her favorite characters. One of her earlier works included the autobiography of a piece of bubble gum, and a short Halloween story was turned into a PTA play in elementary school.
Her proudest writing moment remains winning the first Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday “Living the Dream” essay contest as a high school senior and getting to meet Coretta Scott King. Since then, she’s channeled her belief in the power of the written word by creating rich, emotional stories of diverse people coming together to achieve the universal goals of love and acceptance.
When not working on her next story, Seressia is an instructional designer for an international home improvement company. She spends her free time people-watching, belly dancing, and watching way too much anime.

my thoughts~
This was a great read from start to finish! I was entertained from the beginning and I can't wait for the next Shadowchaser in the series...ok, I'm not entirely sure this will be a series, it's more of a wishful thinking, please oh please let this be a series, on my part. If you enoy reading what I would call dark urban fantasy, then this book is for you!!

Giveaway! A Touch of Scandal by Jennifer Haymore

The last thing Garrett, Duke of Calton, expects to find while tracking his sworn enemy is the delectable, mysterious Kate. This beautiful servant girl rouses a longing the battle-scarred ex-soldier had neverhoped to feel again. But when she turns out to be the sister of the manhe seeks, he's convinced he's been betrayed.Kate knows herduty to her family, yet how can she ignore Garrett's powerful pull onher heart? Or the heady temptation of his stolen-and sizzling-kisses?Scandal has followed the duke since the war. Now the greatest shock ofall is on its way-the one that can separate Garrett and Kate forever.

Five Fun Facts~
1. The heroine from A Touch of Scandal, Kate, has a younger brother, Reginald. Reggie suffers from severe asthma—something I understand, having been through it as a child and now watching my own son fight it. It’s truly a painful and frightening illness. I can’t imagine what it was like for children before proper medications were available. The prescription the doctor in A Touch of Scandal orders—prussic acid—was a common remedy for asthma. But like many medicines of the time, prussic acid has since been proven to be very poisonous—even deadly. No wonder poor Reggie didn’t improve while he was taking it!
2. In the first drafts of A Touch of Scandal, there were three “villains.” I thought that was at least one too many, so I changed one character to soften her up a bit, even almost redeeming her at the end. She’s still not a very likeable character, but she’s no longer the equivalent of the Wicked Witch of the West! Can you guess who this is?
3. I’ve been to England several times, but I have not been to Kenilworth Castle. I researched it as thoroughly as I could while writing A Touch of Scandal, and it’s definitely on the itinerary for my next visit to the UK!
4. The James family seat, Calton House, is located in the Yorkshire dales. I feel especially bonded to this part of England—I think it’s because several of my ancestors immigrated to Canada from Yorkshire. I’ve driven through the county once, and I loved it. It’s a special place.
5. One of the main characters in A Touch of Scandal is Becky, the younger sister of the Duke of Calton. I have loved writing about her, because she is the one character whose growth you can really see from the beginning to the end of the series. She is immature and compulsive in A Hint of Wicked; she crashes back to reality in A Touch of Scandal; and in the third book, A Season of Seduction, she really comes into her own and finally finds the man that will lead her down the (very rocky!) road to a happily ever after.
