"What the hell?" Spade muttered, letting her go to fling the door open with a scowl.
Ian stood on the other side.
"What is wrong with you, banging on like that?" Spade demanded.
Ian cast a wicked look at Spade, who wore only his shirt, and then one at Denise as she hastily closed her robe.
"Paybacks," Ian said succinctly. Then he walked away whistling.

Quick Reviews...

I recently read the first 4 books of The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost.
Halfway to the Grave
A vampire slayer with an attitude reluctantly teams up with another vampire to track down and destroy an even more menacing evil, in this sexy paranormal romance. Original.
Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.
In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

One Foot in the Grave
Cat Crawfield, a vampire slayer with an attitude, reluctantly teams up with vampire Crispin Bones Russell to track down a more menacing evil. Original.
You can run from the grave, but you can't hide . . .
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She's still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.
Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she'll find that desire lasts forever . . . and that Bones won't let her get away again.

At Grave's End
Some things won't stay buried . . . at grave's end
It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield's life. With her undead lover Bones at her side, she's successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat's worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover's finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger.
As if that wasn't enough, a woman from Bones's past is determined to bury him once and for all. Caught in the crosshairs of a vengeful vamp, yet determined to help Bones stop a lethal magic from being unleashed, Cat's about to learn the true meaning of bad blood. And the tricks she's learned as a special agent won't help her. She will need to fully embrace her vampire instincts in order to save herself—and Bones—from a fate worse than the grave.

Destined for an Early Grave
Her deadly dreams leave her in grave danger
Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they've fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it's time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She's having visions of a vampire named Gregor who's more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn't know about.
Gregor believes Cat is his and he won't stop until he has her. As the battle begins between the vamp who haunts her nightmares and the one who holds her heart, only Cat can break Gregor's hold over her. She'll need all the power she can summon in order to bring down the baddest bloodsucker she's ever faced . . . even if getting that power will result in an early grave.

my thoughts~ I'm just going to say this. I gotta say, I ♥ Bones! For me there is just something that is seriously sexy about a man with a sense of humor. I admit it, my funny bone is the shortcut to my heart. And let me tell ya, I rented these books from my local library. I am now planning to buy them all! Starting with This Side of the Grave that is being released tomorrow!

Quick Reviews...

While I was sick, I managed to read quite a bit so I'm going to do some quick reviews on some of the books that I've read recently. Today's reviews: 3 from Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series. I bought a Kresley Cole Bundle from kobobooks.com that was 3 books:

A Hunger Like No Other

A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her…

After enduring years of torture from the vampire Horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy...

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents--until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae--and their notorious dark desire--ebb as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.

An all consuming desire...

Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be...?

my thoughts~ This was the first book that I read and I think that I enjoyed it the most. There is just something about a man with an accent that I adore. I loved Emma & Lachlan. This is one seriously HOT couple who will stop at nothing to be together!

Wicked Deeds On A Winter's Night

Her breathless kiss haunts him.

Bowen MacRieve of the Lykae clan was nearly destroyed when he lost the one woman meant for him. The ruthless warrior grew even colder, never taking another to his bed—until a smoldering encounter with his enemy, Mariketa the Awaited, reawakens his darkest desires. When sinister forces unite against her, the Highlander finds himself using all his strength and skill to keep her alive.

His slow, hot touch is irresistible.

Temporarily stripped of her powers, Mari is forced to take refuge with her sworn adversary. It’s rumored that no one can tempt Bowen’s hardened heart, but soon passion burns between them. Though a future together is impossible, she fears he has no intention of letting her go.

No deed is too wicked for her seduction.

If they defeat the evil that surrounds them, can Mari deny Bowen when he demands her body and soul—or will she risk everything for her fierce protector?
my thoughts~ This book had some serious twists to it! I could say that I loved it for those twists alone, but it wouldn't be the truth. I liked Bowen. Even when I was thinking "boy men sure do suck that do that!" I still liked him. And I have to say that Kresley Cole has her heroines & heroes steaming up the pages!

Pleasure Of A Dark Prince

A Dangerous Beauty Lucia the Huntress: as mysterious as she is exquisite, she harbors secrets that threaten to destroy her—and those she loves.

An Uncontrollable Need

Garreth MacRieve, Prince of the Lykae: the brutal Highland warrior who burns to finally claim this maddeningly sensual creature as his own.

Lead to a Pleasure so Wicked. . . .

From the shadows, Garreth has long watched over Lucia. Now, the only way to keep the proud huntress safe from harm is to convince her to accept him as her guardian. To do this, Garreth will ruthlessly exploit Lucia’s greatest weakness—her wanton desire for him. . . .
my thoughts~ Whats not to love about Garreth? *sigh* I mean really he will do anything to get his "lass. He forgives Lucia everything she does to get away from him (and she does alot of wicked things) because she knows if/when she succumbs to him, she will be forever changed. Literally. This is another couple that I can't wait to catch glimpses of in other books!
All 3 of these books rate

Bullet by Laurell K. Hamilton

Anita Blake is back in St. Louis and trying to live a normal life-as normal as possible for someone who is a legal vampire executioner and a U. S. Marshal. There are lovers, friends and their children, school programs to attend. In the midst of all the ordinary happiness a vampire from Anita's past reaches out. She was supposed to be dead, killed in an explosion, but the Mother of All Darkness is the first vampire, their dark creator. It's hard to kill a god. This dark goddess has reached out to her here-in St. Louis, home of everyone Anita loves most. The Mother of All Darkness has decided she has to act now or never, to control Anita, and all the vampires in America.

The Mother of All Darkness believes that the triumvirate created by master vampire Jean-Claude with Anita and the werewolf Richard Zeeman has enough power for her to regain a body and to immigrate to the New World. But the body she wants to possess is already taken. Anita is about to learn a whole new meaning to sharing her body, one that has nothing to do with the bedroom. And if the Mother of All Darkness can't succeed in taking over Anita's body for herself, she means to see that no one else has the use of it, ever again. Even Belle Morte, not always a friend to Anita, has sent word: "Run if you can..."

my thoughts~
Maybe I'm starting to be de-sensitized by the sex because I enjoyed this book. Yes, I still think there is over the top sex going on (and I did skip most of it), but this book did something for me that LKH's books haven't done in awhile. It's made me want to read the next book. I mean, like, when is it coming out, I need to get on the library waiting list, that kind of want. Maybe it's because Richard is back and I definitely have a soft spot for Richard when he isn't being a wolf's ass. And he did seem to step up to the plate in Bullet. I've always said that I could accept a Anita, Jean Claude & Richard storyline. Now I would have to include Micah & Nathanial!

My Posts This Week:
 Waiting On Wednesday
R.I.P. Brother
My Week In Review:
This has been a tough week for me personally. As I wrote earlier in the week, my brother passed away unexpectedly on Sunday. While most might think since we weren't terribly close, it wouldn't be so difficult to say that final good-bye. But it was. It was hard to see his 2 sons try to say good-bye. The youngest being 16 and he had just lost his maternal grandfather the Friday before. It was a lot for someone so young. As everyone know, I'm still unemployeed and since the services were held out of state, I had to use the money that I had been saving for a digital camera (you know, grandchild coming in August!!). So that fund will get restarted in a couple of weeks.
I have read quite a bit this week but I haven't even thought about writing my thoughts on them yet. I've read Bullet, Destined For An Early Grave & Love Is Murder this week and I just started Bloodfever. I think what I'm going to do is do 1 posting for the Night Huntress books once the newest comes out (02/22/11!) and I read it. hmmm... yep sounds like a plan to me!
That was my week.
How was yours?

It's Driving Me Nuts!

Just recently, I began trying to remember some of the books that I read a long time ago. Like a decade or more. Yeah, that long ago. Here's the issue. My memory is crapola. Since the chemo, coma, blah, blah, blah, I have a horrible memory. First I was trying to remember a series about a woman that was taken captive by Indians and they fell in love (what? it was the 80's, (maybe the early 90's) shush!) It took me awhile but I figured out it was The Ecstasy series by Janelle Taylor (don't panic, I'll list them below!). Once I figured those out, I remembered reading a trilogy (maybe?) about a female (undercover) pirate and the man who becomes her husband. And you know, I'm not sure what her name was. I think it was Serena or Sabrina. I don't know. But as God as my witness, I will find these books! Do you have any ideas?

below is the Ecstasy series~
  • Savage Ecstasy
  • Defiant Ecstasy
  • Forbidden Ecstasy
  • Brazen Ecstasy
  • Tender Ecstasy
  • Stolen Ecstasy
  • Bittersweet Ecstasy
  • Forever Ecstasy
  • Savage Conquest

R.I.P. Brother...

I received the call yesterday while I was at Sunday dinner with some friends that my brother had fallen a few days ago and had refused to go to the hospital. That was the 3rd time (at least) that he has hit his head in the last 2 years that has resulted in brain bleeds. The next morning his son couldn't wake him up and called 911. After the doctors ran their tests and everything they said that if he did come out of the coma, that he would be a vegetable due to all the brain damage that he's received from these numerous falls. Thankfully, my brother had thought ahead (with his poor health it was a very smart thing to do) and had a living will that if this happened he did not want to be kept on life support. So his wishes were granted and within an hour he was gone.
I was not terribly close to my brothers on my Dad's side. They grew up and lived in another state, but I remember how excited I would be when my Dad or step-mom would call and tell me that 1 or all 4 of my brothers would be in town for a visit. I remember how they would sit in the back seat with me and serenade me songs, usually something to do with my name. But then one of the 4 was killed in a car accident and it seemed like the light had gone out of us. I grew older and they had their wives and kids to raise we grew apart. So today, I'm sad because my brother, who used to sing to me has died. I'm sad that we weren't closer. I'm sad that the 2 remaining brothers that I have on my Dads side are MIA. But I'm very thankful that I do have those earlier memories.

I love you Brother.

Flirt by Laurell K Hamilton

Anita Blake meets with prospective client Tony Bennington and learns that he is willing to pay top dollar to have his recently deceased wife reanimated. But Anita knows that what would step out of the late Mrs. Bennington's grave would not be her former self, but a zombie.New in the #1 New York Timesbestselling series When Anita Blake meets with prospective client Tony Bennington, who is desperate to have her reanimate his recently deceased wife, she is full of sympathy for his loss. Anita knows something about love, and she knows everything there is to know about loss. But what she also knows, though Tony Bennington seems unwilling to be convinced, is that the thing she can do as a necromancer isn't the miracle he thinks he needs. The creature that Anita could coerce to step out of the late Mrs. Bennington's grave would not be the lovely Mrs. Bennington. Not really. And not for long.

my thoughts~ Well. Hmmm... I enjoyed Flirt more than I thought I would. It was a very short book (less than 114 pages on my Kobo) so it had the feel of a novella to me. There was basically 1 story line with no subplots, she only had sex with 1 guy. Very unusual. I hope LKH keeps it up. I have Bullet to read next (thanks to the Indianapolis Marion County Library!) and can't wait to see what it holds. I hate to say it, but I'm hoping LKH is returning to her earlier writing style.
