R.I.P. Brother...

I received the call yesterday while I was at Sunday dinner with some friends that my brother had fallen a few days ago and had refused to go to the hospital. That was the 3rd time (at least) that he has hit his head in the last 2 years that has resulted in brain bleeds. The next morning his son couldn't wake him up and called 911. After the doctors ran their tests and everything they said that if he did come out of the coma, that he would be a vegetable due to all the brain damage that he's received from these numerous falls. Thankfully, my brother had thought ahead (with his poor health it was a very smart thing to do) and had a living will that if this happened he did not want to be kept on life support. So his wishes were granted and within an hour he was gone.
I was not terribly close to my brothers on my Dad's side. They grew up and lived in another state, but I remember how excited I would be when my Dad or step-mom would call and tell me that 1 or all 4 of my brothers would be in town for a visit. I remember how they would sit in the back seat with me and serenade me songs, usually something to do with my name. But then one of the 4 was killed in a car accident and it seemed like the light had gone out of us. I grew older and they had their wives and kids to raise we grew apart. So today, I'm sad because my brother, who used to sing to me has died. I'm sad that we weren't closer. I'm sad that the 2 remaining brothers that I have on my Dads side are MIA. But I'm very thankful that I do have those earlier memories.

I love you Brother.
